Hallo-wine, Bonfire & Bangers

One of our favourite times of year, Halloween and Bonfire Night signals the start of what will be a fantastic Autumn season. Pumpkins, costumes, sparklers and friends, it is a colourful ‘apéritif’ to the Christmas season and we have selected some of our favourite wines for you to enjoy.

Whether you are cosy by the fire, throwing a party, or wrapping up and heading out to a sip and sing around the bonfire, we have it covered. And, because today heralds the start of UK Sausage Week (a celebration of the taste and quality of the traditional British banger) we have paired some of our award-winners with three traditional sausage recipes.

Hallo-wine Party
Wine cocktails and long drinks make the perfect party favourite and, when mixed with lashings of soda and lemonade, you not only create the perfect’ wine inspired’ party punch, but it offers a delicious, budget-friendly drink for your guests to enjoy. Made in Norfolk for over 50 years our Fruit and Country Ginger wine (£5.99) makes a devilishly tasty warming, spicy spritzer. Check out our two favourite recipes below:



Macabre Ginger & Mint Potion
  • Crushed or cubed ice
  • 1 part Ginger Wine
  • 2 parts lemonade
  • Touch of orange Zest
  • ¼ lemon slice
  • 2 mint leaves (torn)
  • 2 slices of cucumber to garnish

Pomegranate Cauldron
  • Crushed or cubed ice
  • 4 parts Ginger Wine
  • 5 parts Pomegranate Juice
  • 1 part lemonade
  • ¼ lime juice
  • Pomegranate and lime wedge to garnish

Serve over ice in a tall glass or why not hollow out a pumpkin, add your punch bowl, grab a ladle and serve. Your guests will love it!

Always a favourite at parties, and to toast in the season with those who like bubbles, our award-winning Filipetti Prosecco (£9.14) offers a fresh and well-balanced wine. Ideal served as an apéritif or with hors d'oeuvres, fish and light delicate dishes. Cheers.

Cosy Night In
For those who prefer to sit down for a wholesome meal, a comforting sausage casserole is a cosy crowd-pleaser. Good quality sausages, slow cooked over a low heat are the secrets to the success of this easy winter warmer. Serve alongside our award-winning WaraWara Shiraz Cabernet (£6.20). Meaning 'far away' in the indigenous language of the Darug people, WaraWara showcases the unique skill and passion of the producers in this region, encapsulating the very essence of what gives Australian family-owned wineries their great reputations.
 
Offering plum and raspberry flavours, together with a soft yet oaky character and a hint of spice on the palate, this juicy and elegant red is fruit driven and food-friendly.



 Something sweeter? Rather unique, and our favourite affordable indulgence for those who adore chocolate, is our Chocolate Drop (£5.99) red British wine. This is an imaginative blend of Red British Wine with luxurious dark chocolate and black cherry flavours with notes of mocha and vanilla. Delicious by itself, with any kind of chocolate or even a hearty casserole.
 
Bonfire and Bangers with Friends
We’ll start with the Bonfire Night favourite of hot dogs – delicious pork sausages, onions, lashings of tomato ketchup or mustard in a warm roll perfectly paired with our multi award-winning Pais de Poetas Merlot (£6.59). Throw a log on the fire, pour a glass and enjoy.



And it wouldn’t be a bonfire without a seasonal mulled wine. Our popular, traditional Belgars Mulled British Wine (£4.49) is aromatic, fruity & spicy, rich in orange, lemon and red berry fruits and balanced with spiced aromas. This traditional lightly spiced Mulled Wine delivers seasonal warmth and flavour from Halloween to the New Year.

Fireworks
Pre- fireworks? The ultimate sausage dish is a classic toad in the hole – served with creamy mashed potato, vegetables and onion gravy it’s a great pre- firework treat to warm you for the night ahead. Ideal served alongside the medal-winning Compass Point Shiraz (£6.70). Open, pour & explore this classic Shiraz from South Eastern Australia. Rich and fruity with ripe black fruit flavours of cherry and plum with hints of spice, pepper and vanilla. This range also comes in a ‘pocket’ sized single serve too!

And for the firework display itself?
